Nottingham Forest face Premier League opposition in the FA Cup fifth round, with the visit of Ipswich Town on Monday evening.

Nuno Espirito Santo hinted at squad rotation against Ipswich, which could even see some of Forest’s brightest young talents claim an opportunity as the Premier League fixture list becomes punishing enough to favour rotation for the FA Cup.

Rotation will be forced upon the visitors as Omari Hutchinson will miss the Forest clash, leaving Kieran McKenna’s struggling Tractor Boys depleted for their trip to the City Ground.

Chris Sutton has predicted Forest to win against Ipswich and advance to the quarter-final stage but with one eye undoubtedly on the crucial Premier League battle with Manchester City the following weekend, Espirito Santo will need to think hard about how to approach the Ipswich challenge.

Nottingham Forest team news

As previously mentioned, the Forest manager has hinted at rotating his squad for the Ipswich tie, potentially giving the chance to the likes of Ramon Sosa and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Awoniyi is fit to play after a broken nose saw him subbed off in the previous FA Cup round against Exeter City. The Nigerian scored in the tie, so will be hoping to continue that positive run into the fifth round.

It seems as if Espirito Santo has a relatively clean bill of health for the Ipswich tie, arguably making his job slightly more difficult as the more fringe members of the Forest squad will see this as their best opportunity to stake a claim for the Premier League run-in.

FA Cup quarter-final draw

Should Forest beat Ipswich, they will already know their quarter-final opponents as the draw is set to take place directly after Sunday’s fifth-round tie between Manchester United and Fulham.

Prediction

Ryan Yates was excellent against Ipswich in November, and if his teammates can also find a similar level of performance, Forest should have enough to see off Ipswich on Monday evening.

Even with the potential for rotation, Ipswich haven’t won against Premier League opposition in 2025, so as long as the Forest coaching staff stick to what they know, a place in the quarter-finals could await. We’ll go for a 2-0 Reds win.

Prediction: Nottingham Forest 2-0 Ipswich Town.
