Ryan Yates is very much Mr Nottingham Forest and the club captaincy tag is something he takes a great deal of pride in.
On Monday, Yates bagged his fourth goal of the season in all competitions and he’s desperately craving more strikes in the Garibaldi.
Yates hasn’t been a regular in the Premier League of late and has been forced to feed from scraps when it comes to his minutes in the league campaign.
Still, being in the FA Cup has given him a chance to play more minutes and he will hope his performance on Monday will give him a chance of starting against Manchester City.
Nuno Espirito Santo hailed Yates for his Forest efforts on Monday and 24 hours after that performance, the captain was dishing out praise of his own.

Ryan Yates sends message to Joe Gardner after EFL milestone
It’s been a whirlwind time of things for Forest academy graduate Gardner, who joined Lincoln City on loan during the January transfer window.
Gardner was sent off on his debut after being on the pitch for just four minutes and that saw him serve a three-match suspension.
The player was back in action recently, however, and on Tuesday night he scored his first goal in men’s football, firing home to put the rubber stamp on a 4-1 win over Crawley.
Gardner can operate through the middle as a striker or up out wide and his goal in midweek came courtesy of some brilliant trickery down the left.
The youngster posted on Instagram: “Delighted to score my first league goal at the LNER Stadium. Big three points under the lights! Thanks to the fans for their support.”
Yates simply replied with a love heart smile emoji and quite clearly, he’s keen to see the club’s younger players do well out on loan.
Forest youngster will look to Yates for inspiration
In this day and age, it’s hard for young players to make an impact with the club now battling it out in the Premier League.
However, Espirito Santo did rave about Gardner last season and it’s clear that he does know who he is and what he’s capable of at the very least.
| Ryan Yates loan spells | Appearances |
| Barrow | 19 |
| Shrewsbury | 12 |
| Notts County | 29 |
| Scunthorpe | 18 |
Yates is the inspiration for the younger players, however. He spent time on loan as a youngster and he’s now played in the top five leagues in English football.
The Forest skipper might not be the first name on the team-sheet at this moment, but a team with the desire and commitment to the cause that Yates shows would always stand a chance of winning any challenge that is placed in front of them.
