Making your debut for a nation like Brazil in a game against Argentina away is never going to be easy, and Nottingham Forest defender Murillo sampled that experience last night.
The centre-back has waited his whole career for this dream moment.
With Arsenal star Gabriel suspended for the trip to Buenos Aires, the nod was given to Murillo – a centre-back who has been in fine form for Forest throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
Murillo has earned praise from Ian Wright this season and his form alongside defender Nikola Milenkovic has helped propel Forest to third place in the Premier League table.
This was a baptism of fire for Murillo, with Argentina offering the 22-year-old a stark warning as to how challenging international football can be.

Brazilian media assess performance of Murillo vs Argentina
This was a tough assignment for Murillo in his first appearance in the famous yellow jersey.
Brazil were battered 4-1 by Argentina to suffer their worst defeat against their fierce rivals in 41 years in this World Cup qualifier.
Murillo was unable to prevent Argentina from taking a 3-1 lead in the first half and at half-time, Dorival Junior decided to hook the Forest man.
Ge Globo scored him a 3/10 and claimed: “Very bad in his debut for the Brazilian national team.
“He left space behind, received a yellow card in the 27th minute for a foul in midfield and was involved in three goals.
“In the first, the ball rebounded off his knee; in the second, he was unable to clear it and in the third, he was slow to react and allowed Mac Allister to infiltrate.
“Substituted at half-time.”

Murillo hasn’t all of a sudden become a bad player and his form at Forest dictates that he will get more opportunities for the national team.
The defender isn’t the first player and he won’t be the last to have a bit of a stinker on his international debut and it’s all about how he learns from this experience.
Now, the defender’s priority will be on helping Forest into the Champions League and enjoying big European nights next season should aid him on the international stage too.
