Stan Collymore thinks £40m-rated ‘monster’ should sign for Nottingham Forest ahead of Manchester United

Nottingham Forest lost to Aston Villa on Saturday and it’s important that the Reds part the first half performance pretty quickly.

Forest are still nicely poised to claim a place in next season’s Champions League and if that remit is met, the time will come to try and enhance the squad.

The Reds did well in the transfer market in the summer of 2024.

Elliot Anderson and Nikola Milenkovic were the pick of 11 signings, with two players – David Carmo and Marko Stamenic immediately joining Olympiacos on loan.

If the Reds are in Europe at all next season, the squad needs to be stronger and already some links are starting to emerge over which players might come to the City Ground.

Stan Collymore urges Forest to sign Liam Delap

Evangelos Marinakis wanted a striker in January and with Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi now both injured, it could prove costly not to bring one in.

But, in reality, January is a tough market to shop in and it wasn’t as if the Reds didn’t try to bring someone in before the transfer deadline.

Collymore knows what it takes to score goals for Forest and he’s identified Ipswich striker Delap as the ideal player for the Reds ahead of next season.

The Tractor Boys will lose Delap in the summer window when relegation is confirmed, with yesterday’s defeat to Wolves leaving them 12 points adrift of safety.

Collymore told Caught Offside: “If I was Liam Delap, I would not join Manchester United this summer.

“Instead, he should consider joining someone like Nottingham Forest, who are putting their money where their mouth is.

“All he needs to do is look at guys like Anthony Elanga, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chris Wood, who have turned their fortunes around over the last 12 months, and they’re now thriving – especially this season.

“I think Delap would enjoy playing there, especially if Forest were to qualify for next season’s Champions League. And in Nuno Espirito Santo, he would be playing for a manager that loves to counter-attack and that would suit his style a lot more.”

Delap has scored 12 goals and claimed two assists in a struggling side this season, with a move very much on the cards for him this summer.

Delap would be quality Nottingham Forest signing

The 22-year-old would be a class signing for the Reds and his game is probably not to dissimilar to Chris Wood’s when it comes to spearheading the attack.

Ipswich goalkeeper Alex Palmer has called Delap a ‘monster’ and it’s clear that clubs will be queuing up to keep him in the Premier League next season.

Forest will be going in search of a marquee signing when it comes to a striker and Marinakis will be leaving no stone unturned once again.

Delap would be a dream addition to the ranks and it would be a serious coup if Forest could land the striker on a permanent basis when the window opens.
