Nottingham Forest have an academy to be proud of and behind the scenes, the future is very bright.

The Reds have been fighting on a number of fronts at the under-21 level, with the B-Team in the Premier League International Cup semi-final later this month.

Forest have fought hard in the Premier League 2 campaign but amidst a host of top Category One outfits, the Reds have lacked consistency at times.

In relative terms, the Forest academy ranks are pretty new to Premier League 2 football and with each passing season, lessons are being learned by the youngsters.

Last night, Forest played their part in a very entertaining draw with Manchester United, with Warren Joyce’s team showing a lot of heart.

Adam Berry stuns Manchester United with late equaliser

This will have proved sweet for the young number eight in the Forest engine room.

Berry was allowed to join Forest from Old Trafford two years ago and the tenacious performer has been trying to prove the Red Devils wrong ever since.

Last night, Forest looked to have been put to the sword by United with Chido Obi-Martin scoring twice to give the Red Devils a 3-1 advantage.

However, Forest rallied and after Kyle McAdam pulled one back, Berry showcased exactly what United are missing with a brilliant lob over the head of goalkeeper Elyh Harrison.

Forest academy can continue to thrive under Nuno Espirito Santo

The Forest head coach included Zach Abbott on the bench on Saturday in defeat at Aston Villa and the pathway feels clear.

Doubts were raised over Espirito Santo’s appointment largely due to his desire to work with a small squad and ignore the club’s academy when he was at Wolves.

However, that doesn’t appear to be the case and he’s identified that Forest is a football club with a proud history when it comes to their academy.

Berry was buzzing when he signed for Forest and he’s worked extremely hard to become a regular in the B-Team over the past two seasons.

His goal last night offered a timely reminder of his quality to United and helped Forest claim a deserved point in a big game.
