‘It’s amazing’… Nuno Espirito Santo shares one positive after Nottingham Forest lose, drops hint on Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi

Nottingham Forest were beaten 1-0 by Everton with Abdoulaye Doucoure scoring a 94th-minute goal to leave the City Ground shellshocked.

In truth, this was a poor game from a Forest perspective.

The Reds couldn’t play their usual football, with a big and strong Everton side coming to Trentside to bully Forest into submission.

Forest were well beaten in the end by the Toffees and Nuno Espirito Santo will have to look for some solutions ahead of a tricky test at Tottenham next Monday.

Nuno Espirito Santo makes Chris Wood claim after Everton loss

There was a surprise inclusion on the Forest team-sheet as Wood made his first appearance since injuring his hip on international duty.

It was a very welcome surprise but on this occasion, Wood was unable to produce the goods for Forest and win the team a big three points.

It’s great to see him back out on the pitch, however, with Taiwo Awoniyi picking up an injury last week that kept him out of the Aston Villa game.

Speaking on Wood, Espirito Santo praised his striker but admitted he needs more players to come back into the fold for the final six matches.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “It’s amazing to have him. Hopefully, we will try to recover T and Ola (Aina).

“We need all the players. It’s going to be hard work to the end, so having all the players available would help.”

It has to be said that Wood didn’t have his best game against Everton as the likes of James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite stood firm to preserve a big win for the Toffees.

Wood will look to bounce back and get back on the goal trail, having failed to score since Forest beat Brighton 7-0 back in February.

Still, it’s been a great season for Wood during the campaign and he will now want to finish with a flourish and help fire Forest back to form and into the Champions League.

Wood has penned a new two-year contract and this felt like one of those days where nothing went right for him.

He will come good again though and it’s great to see him back on the pitch at the very least.
