Nottingham Forest might have lost to Everton on Saturday but there is still potential for this to be one of the best Premier League seasons for many years in Nottingham.
Last season was blighted by a poor start, a points deduction, and the need to win on the final day of the season at Burnley to absolutely guarantee Premier League survival for another year.
Nuno Espirito Santo has worked tirelessly since the start of pre-season to make sure the team were well-prepped and ready for the 2024/25 campaign, with the Reds still third in the Premier League table.
That will change on Wednesday, should Newcastle claim another victory against Crystal Palace in their game in hand on Forest but with six games to go, it really is all to play for.
There has been a real buzz around the city of Nottingham this season. Indeed, it’s nice to be concerned about what Newcastle, Aston Villa and Chelsea are doing at the top end of the table, rather than fighting relegation at the other end of the scale.

Morato shares secret to Nottingham Forest success
Morato was slammed by Alan Shearer for his part in an Aston Villa goal when Forest lost 2-1 at Villa Park last weekend, but he’s proved a largely decent addition to the ranks during 2024/25.
The Brazilian player checked in for just £10 million from Benfica in the summer and he’s added some big-game experience and has provided the foil for Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo just nicely.
He told UOL on Forest’s season so far: “We have very good chemistry.
“I think if there is any secret to our success, it is this: the team’s union. We don’t do anything very different, just simply a group of good guys.
“What is happening here is incredible. I met a Portuguese fan who moved to Nottingham 25 years ago and ended up becoming a Forest fan. He said it was years and more years of suffering but now he’s living a dream.”
Morato stats 2024/25
The 23-year-old will have a big role to play as the season progresses towards the finish line, with Espirito Santo often utilising the defender in the closing stages of matches when protecting a lead.
Naturally, that meant there was no place for him on Saturday as Forest slipped to defeat but his chance will come once again.
| Morato stats 2024/25 | Total |
| Appearances | 22 |
| Tackles | 21 |
| Interceptions | 9 |
| Blocks | 7 |
| Who Scored Rating | 6.33 |
Morato is another nod towards the club’s newly meticulous recruitment model and if Forest were to sell the defender in the next window, it’s certain they’d make a significant profit on him.
Every team needs a good squad these days and Morato being in reserve, highlights the strength in depth that Forest have at their disposal.
