Nottingham Forest and Newcastle are currently in a bit of a fight with Aston Villa, Chelsea and Manchester City for the Champions League spots next season.

Five into six doesn’t go. With Liverpool and Arsenal going to comfortably claim a place in the Champions League, that only leaves three spots in the elite European club competition up for grabs.

Whatever happens with the respective clubs, Newcastle and Forest will be going in search of new players to bolster their squads ahead of next season once the summer transfer window opens.

It would appear that the two clubs might even be going to do battle with each other for some players as Nuno Espirito Santo and Eddie Howe look to prepare for another productive campaign in 2025/26.

Nottingham Forest and Newcastle want Federico Gatti

It would appear that both Forest and Newcastle are shopping at the same market this summer, with Juventus captain Gatti in the sights of both clubs ahead of the window reopening.

The 26-year-old has been with the Old Lady since 2022, and although Gatti is making progress with new contract talks, the Serie A club are not ruling out a sale for the centre-back this summer, according to Juve FC.

Right now, the player is out injured and is not expected to return until May but during the 2024/25 campaign, he’s made 40 appearances for Juvetus and has captained the side on several occasions.

Gatti has 103 appearances to his name for the Turin-based giants, but it now looks as though the club are open to offloading him in the summer, with a Premier League club now looking set to make their move for him.

The talented player will have Forest fans getting Nikola Milenkovic vibes. Although Gatti might cost more than the £12 million that the Reds got the Serbian for, he could have a similar impact at the club.

Forest will need a new central defender in the summer. Murillo might well leave the club if his valuation is met by a European giant, whilst Willy Boly will almost certainly be released by the Reds.

Gatti has big game experience having played in the Champions League this season and that could help Forest if European football is secured before the end of the campaign.

Newcastle might hold the aces with Gatti but ultimately, Forest have proven in the past they can compete with bigger clubs for players and the Italian defender could prove to be a very useful addition.
