Nottingham Forest allowed Andrew Omobamidele to head out on loan during the January transfer window and much like the Reds, he’s now eyeing up a place in next season’s Champions League.

Strasbourg are absolutely flying under the management of Liam Rosenior, formerly of Forest’s fierce rivals Derby County, and now they’re in the hunt to secure a Champions League place.

Omobamidele was struggling for game time at Forest amid the summer arrivals of Morato from Benfica and Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina, with both players playing a big part in Forest’s season so far.

Last night, Omobamidele was in action again for Strasbourg as they took on Monaco in a crunch Ligue 1 game, with the two teams playing out an entertaining draw and sharing the points.

The talented centre-back is doing extremely well at Strasbourg, and right now, it does feel as though the player will almost certainly make his loan permanent in the summer.

It would appear fans of many persuasions are impressed with Omobamidele, with Republic of Ireland fans and Strasbourg fans seemingly very impressed with the centre-back’s latest display.

Another fan said: “In what has been a very dire game, Omobamidele has impressed again. He doesn’t do anything flashy, he just throws himself around and lets you know he’s there.”

Another fan was also impressed and said: “Very good game for Andrew Omobamidele against Moncao. Assured in possession, made vital timely interceptions and was dominant in the air. Needs to close out the season injury-free. Great talent.”

Finally another fan said: “Omobamidele was the best outfield player for Strasbourg. There was one key interception he made which prevented Biereth from getting the ball for the 1v1. Pure defensive performance from him. Led the back three perfectly.”

It really doesn’t feel as though the Ireland international will be returning to Forest, with other central defenders ahead of him and players still being linked with a move to the club in that position.

Still, he does look like a really bright player for the future and if it does transpire that Omobamidele returns to the City Ground, there might just be a role for him to play going forward.

Forest only paid £11 million for Omobamidele and that’s a drop in the ocean for the Reds when it comes to PSR, with the club surely working to get their money back should a sale take place.

It’s great to see the youngster enjoy a positive loan spell and it will be fascinating to see if he can help Strasbourg defy the odds and make the Champions League next season.
