Bad news for Nottingham Forest as European giants slap down contract for Nuno Espirito Santo to sign

The future of Nuno Espirito Santo is remarkably up in the air as the Premier League season draws to a close.

Forest are currently seventh in the table with one game to come at home to Chelsea, with a place in the Champions League potentially up for grabs if a win is secured.

The Reds won 2-1 at West Ham United on Sunday to set up a mouthwatering finale to the campaign at the City Ground with everything at stake.

Forest are definitely in Europe next season, but right now it’s not clear which competition they will play in, with all three tournaments still a possibility for the Reds.

Espirito Santo has been linked with leaving Forest, and that is quite remarkable considering everything that he’s achieved at the club this season.

Nuno Espirito Santo wanted by Roma

It’s not clear how much substance there is to the reports that have emerged today, but it’s now being claimed that Roma have offered him a two-year contract.

According to Relovo, the Reds’ head coach is subject to interest from the Serie A outfit as they look to appoint a new incumbent before next season.

Espirito Santo has been with Forest since December 2023, taking the Reds to Premier League survival last season and qualifying for Europe 12 months later.

Now, it’s not clear what the future holds for the Portuguese head coach and perhaps a new manager will be needed this summer, along with new players.

Nuno Espirito Santo record at Forest

Taking over halfway through a campaign was always going to be difficult for Espirito Santo but after keeping the Reds up, the decision made by Evangelos Marinakis to keep him looks justified.

Nobody expected Forest to qualify for Europe this season and for that, Espirito Santo deserves immense credit.

There is an argument that perhaps Marinakis isn’t happy with how Forest have dropped off a little bit in the final month of the season but the players have given everything all season.

It would be a serious blow if Espirito Santo does leave and should he go to Roma, he could come up against Forest in next season’s Europa League, should the stars align.
