Nottingham Forest are set to secure the signing of left-back Cuiabano from Botafogo, but his arrival could actually be bad news for Ramon Sosa.
Alongside the news of Igor Jesus’ imminent arrival, Forest targeted Cuiabano and Jair Cunha from Botafogo in an audacious triple-swoop.
The three Botafogo signings are nearly finalised, which will have left Forest fans looking for more information on Cuiabano and Jair, with Jesus making his Brazil debut, meaning that more information is available on the striker.
To fill in the gaps, Brazilian football expert Nathan Joyes has been discussing Cuiabano and has provided one detail that could impact Sosa the most.

The ‘unbelievable’ Cuiabano strength that Ramon Sosa cannot match
Cuiabano is predominantly a left-back, so you’d suspect that he and Sosa could coexist in the Forest squad at the same time, playing in different positions.
However, Joyes explained on the Forest Focus podcast that Cuiabano’s development further forward at Botafogo has created an issue for the Paraguayan winger.
He said: “What I really like about his [Cuiabano’s] game is that because he was learning his trade as a left back, as he’s advanced up the pitch, his high press is unbelievable. That’s maybe where Ramon Sosa struggled with Forest because he couldn’t handle that defensive responsibility.”
Linked with a move away, Sosa wants to remain in Europe which has made him more likely to remain at Forest than previously imagined.
If Cuiabano is to have an impact further forward for Forest, it could spell the end of the road for Sosa at the City Ground, given what Nuno Espírito Santo expects from his forwards as a bare minimum.
Nuno Espírito Santo demands defensive work from his attackers
Sosa almost left Forest in January as Boca Juniors registered an interest in him, emphasising that his move to the Premier League hasn’t gone to plan.
Espírito Santo has always preferred other options on the left, and Cuiabano could be the next to get ahead of Sosa, especially given the Forest manager’s expectations of his attackers.
Speaking ahead of Forest’s victory over Leicester in October, Nuno said: “Since we started pre-season, we wanted to become more solid and compact, not allowing too many chances.
“[…] It’s nothing special, honestly! It’s what I think a football team has to become. It has to be solid, compact, and always covering and helping each other, throwing your body in front of the ball. This is defending. This is the basics of football.
From what Joyes said, Cuiabano is better placed to fulfil these basics than Sosa is, which could be another nail in the coffin of his future at the club.
