Nottingham Forest will hope to keep Anthony Elanga at the club beyond the summer but with Newcastle active in the market, things could prove tricky.
Elanga was in fine form last season for Forest, scoring six goals and claiming 12 assists as the Reds finished the campaign in a lofty seventh place.
Newcastle are keen to sign Elanga and are making a big play to get him over the line before the new season gets underway in August.
Forest will try tooth and nail to keep their number 21 at the club, but with Newcastle offering Champions League football, things might prove problematic.

Nottingham Forest must rival Arsenal for Johan Bakayoko
Both Arsenal and Bournemouth are keen on signing Bakayoko from PSV and this summer, he’s available for transfer for just £17 million.
Forest will almost certainly target a stellar winger for the team if Elanga does leave and given the cut-down price, signing Bakayoko would still give the club some wriggle room for further reinforcements.
Bakayoko is one of Europe’s brightest young wingers and can operate on both sides of the pitch, with Forest likely to appreciate his versatility.
The 22-year-old scored 12 times during last season and also managed to set up a further three across the campaign.
Forest perhaps don’t view Bakayoko as being better than either Elanga or Callum Hudson-Odoi, but should the Swede leave for Newcastle, Forest simply have to rival the Gunners and Bournemouth for his signature.
What Romelu Lukaku said about Johan Bakayoko
With the talented forward now a regular in Belgium squads, it’s meant that he’s played plenty of games alongside Belgian legend Lukaku.
It would appear that the former Premier League talisman is a huge fan and gave the winger some very high praise indeed.
He told Nogomania: “I’ve told him how incredible he is. I sincerely think he has what it takes to surpass me in the long run.”
Bakayoko will be on the move this summer and if Elanga does leave the football club, it’s absolutely vital that Forest make the PSV player the club’s next addition to the ranks.
