England under-21s are through to the semi-final of the European Championships, with Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson among the goalscorers on a famous night.

The Young Lions lost 2-1 to Germany in midweek, and that means a tie against Spain in the first knockout stage, with last year’s beaten finalists the favourites to claim the win.

England didn’t read the script, though. James McAtee and Harvey Elliott scored to put Lee Carsley’s team 2-0 up, but Javi Guerra halved the deficit six minutes before the interval.

Carsley’s youngsters had to stand firm to get the win amid some strong pressure from Spain in the second half, but in stoppage time, Jonathan Rowe was fouled in the box, with Anderson scoring to send the team through to the last four.

Forest fans love watching the 22-year-old player, and after this performance, the Reds faithful were in no doubt as to who their favourite player to watch on the night was.

Forest fans all say the same thing about Elliot Anderson

It was surprising that Anderson didn’t start this game after doing so in the first three games of the tournament in the group stages.

Anderson did make an impact when he came on, however, and Forest fans have all said the same thing regarding his brilliant performance.

Another delighted Reds fan said: “I repeat. Elliot Anderson is a serious footballer. And he’s ours.”

Another fan said: “Elliot Anderson has been absolutely superb for England U21 since coming on. Great on the ball and absolutely grafting off it.”

Finally, another fan said: “Absolutely love Elliot Anderson…What a player.”

Anderson will continue to shine with Forest opportunities

As a proud Geordie, it will have hurt Anderson to leave Newcastle last summer but in terms of his career, he must be absolutely buzzing.

Anderson has played a full season in the starting eleven for the first time in his career and sometimes that can benefit a younger player considerably.

At 22, Anderson will only get better and Nuno Espirito Santo trusted him to perform a big responsibility in his midfield engine room last season.

He was absolutely brilliant when he was introduced against Spain under-21s, and hopefully, he can get back into the team for the game with the Netherlands this week.
