The Nottingham Forest squad appears to be a tight-knit group, evidenced by the reaction to one of its core members departing the City Ground.
There were clearly no hard feelings when Anthony Elanga confirmed his move to Newcastle United, with the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi wishing the Swede well at his new club.
The Forest squad expect Morgan Gibbs-White to depart this summer as well, where undoubtedly a similar reaction to Elanga’s move would be seen.
It’s not just the top stars who get this loving response, though, as one member of the Forest squad who hadn’t played since the 2022/23 season has just announced his retirement, leading to plenty of love from his teammates.

Wayne Hennessey announces his retirement at 38 years old
Matz Sels is the undisputed number one at the City Ground, with Wayne Hennessey a reliable third choice with Premier League experience.
There was talk that Hennessey could stay on as a coach at Forest beyond this season, which looks more possible as the Welshman announced his retirement.
“I have amazing memories playing for both club and country. From my early days at Wolves, loans at Stockport and Yeovil, and my time with Crystal Palace, Burnley and Nottingham Forest, each club shaped me both on and off the field.”
Hennessey made nine appearances in the 2022/23 season but never lined up for the Reds again, still providing useful competition and advice for the whole squad, though.
His value to the team is apparent in the response to his departure, as the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White and Ryan Yates have responded with heartfelt messages to Hennessey’s retirement.
Nottingham Forest squad respond to Wayne Hennessey update
The drama surrounding Gibbs-White’s ongoing move to Tottenham will have the playmaker incredibly distracted, but he still took time to wish his former teammate the best.
He said: “What a guy. Thank you for your belief and guidance.” While Yates replied: “Big guy!!”

Fellow goalkeeper Sels was also keen to show his appreciation for the Welshman, simply saying: “Legend,” with Hudson-Odoi adding: “What a guy.”
Hennessey made no comment about his future in his post, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him head into a coaching role, given the wealth of experience he amassed in his career.
