Morgan Gibbs-White’s Nottingham Forest future has taken a decisive step as Nottingham Forest face off against AS Monaco in a pre-season friendly.

Tottenham activated Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause in a move that shocked the football world, but Forest then disputed the legality of Spurs’ approach for the midfielder, which has left the deal at a standstill.

With no new update, Gibbs-White returned to training at Forest in preparation for the game on Saturday against French giants Monaco, before Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad jets off to Portugal for a warm-weather training camp.

Tottenham remain waiting in the wings, but Forest have just dropped what could be the clearest hint yet about Gibbs-White’s future.

Morgan Gibbs-White named in Nottingham Forest squad

Reports have suggested that Gibbs-White has shown an impressive attitude in training, showing the respect he has for Forest won’t be diminished amid questions of his future.

However, perhaps the clearest indication of where he’ll be at the start of the season can be found in the team news for the Monaco game, which includes the 25-year-old.

Gibbs-White starts the game against the Ligue 1 side, alongside a number of returning first-team stars who missed the fixture against Chesterfield.

Of course, though, Tottenham remain interested in completing a deal for Gibbs-White, a situation that Forest’s midfield talisman wants resolved as soon as possible.

Morgan Gibbs-White wants a quick solution to his future

After facing Monaco, the Forest squad will travel to Portugal on Monday to continue pre-season training alongside matches against Fulham and Estoril Praia.

Given the importance that the Forest coaching staff will be placing on the trip, all the players will need to be fully committed to the process, which is why Gibbs-White would like the Tottenham situation dealt with before getting on the plane.

According to the Daily Mail: “Morgan Gibbs-White wants his future resolved before Nottingham Forest leave for their training camp in Portugal on Monday, with the midfielder still keen to join Tottenham.

‘[…] If there is no progress, Gibbs-White will be expected to travel with the rest of Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad to Portugal, where they are scheduled to stay until August 1.”

Either way, the ideal scenario would be that the Gibbs-White situation is not hanging over the club during the crucial trip away, but time is running out to settle on a solution.
