Nottingham Forest supporters have endured a difficult start to the transfer window, but the latest rumour has caught their attention.

When Anthony Elanga joined Newcastle United, the £55m fee that the Reds received immediately triggered the rumours of who could replace the Swede. However, negotiations have not gone to plan thus far.

Nottingham Forest News revealed that Forest were in talks to sign Johan Bakayoko but the Belgian eventually picked a move to the Bundesliga instead, while discussions over the signing of Dan Ndoye are continuing, but Napoli are closely rivalling Forest’s move.

Perhaps less of a marquee deal, Forest have also been linked with a move for a Premier League winger, one that has intrigued Reds fans.

Nottingham Forest fans react to Adama Traoré interest

Unexpectedly, Forest have registered an interest in Adama Traoré of Fulham, a player that Nuno Espírito Santo is well aware of, having managed him when at Wolves.

The 29-year-old wouldn’t be the most inspiring addition to directly replace Elanga, but Forest fans have taken to social media to voice their interest in the deal as one that could boost the overall squad.

One fan said: “He’d be exceptional depth for a wide position and would fit our play style perfectly. Get it done.” Another added: “If Nuno wants Traoré then let’s get him.”

Another fan added: “Not saying he’s ideal, but he has attributes we require. He’s a handful.” One more said: “Don’t mind Traoré at all if the boss can get him back to his best.”

One Forest fan said: “Adama Traoré would make a lot of sense considering the circumstances,” with another adding: “Adama Traoré as cover for the right wing behind another class winger is much better than Sosa and Jota.”

Adama Traoré interest has come at the perfect time

Of course, Espírito Santo will know all he needs to about the Spaniard after coaching him at Wolves but if the recruitment team did want a closer look at Traoré, Saturday’s friendly against Fulham gives them that perfect opportunity.

Forest face Fulham in the first of two friendlies while out in Portugal and given the current state of the Reds’ squad, Traoré could well be in for a showcase performance.

Frustratingly, Neco Williams suffered an injury on Wales duty at the end of the season and is only just returning to training, which has left the Forest manager scrambling for options at left-back.

Centre-back David Carmo has featured in the position in pre-season, so would likely do so again as Williams is eased back into action, giving Traoré a real target to exploit down his right side.
