Nottingham Forest are in intense negotiations with Juventus over the signing of Douglas Luiz, but the latest proposal hasn’t gone down well at the City Ground.
Reports have suggested that Forest have been making progress in the Luiz deal, with all indications being that the Brazilian is keen to return to the Premier League.
The interest in Luiz dates back to before his move to Juventus, but Forest chose Elliot Anderson over Luiz in a move that has turned out rather well.
However, Juventus need to sign a replacement for Luiz, leading to a proposed swap deal that the Reds fans have not taken well to on social media.

Nottingham Forest fans don’t want to lose Ibrahim Sangare in Douglas Luiz swap
To solve the issue of Juventus needing to replace the Brazilian, reports in Italy have suggested that Ibrahim Sangare could be offered in a Luiz deal.
However, Sangare has impressed in pre-season after finishing the 24/25 campaign strongly, leading to excitement about a consistent role in Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad after previous injury issues.
Because of this, Forest fans are keen to keep the Ivorian midfielder, taking to social media to voice their disapproval over the swap deal.
One fan said: “It wouldn’t make any sense,” with another adding: “We’ve spent a hell of a lot of development time with Sangare and just now it looks like it may be about to pay off.”
Another fan said: “I want Luiz, but no way I want Sangare gone the other way.” One more said: “I think it would be stupid to get rid of him after the pre-season, he looks so much better.”
One Forest fan said: “I would be gutted, think we see the real Sangare this year,” with another saying: “I don’t want Luiz if this is the case, I want them both. Sangare has been superb I don’t want him to be sold.”
Sangare going the other way would ease the financial difficulty of the Luiz signing, but would equally create another problem to solve in the Forest squad.
Douglas Luiz and Ibrahim Sangare offer different attributes
In terms of balance, a midfield three of Sangare, Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White is a pretty strong one, with all three providing different physical and technical attributes that complement each other.
However, swapping Sangare out for Luiz creates a situation where the Reds lose a combination of physical presence and composure that the Brazilian cannot compare with.
| Statistic | Douglas Luiz | Ibrahim Sangare |
| Tackles per 90 | 2.20 | 4.24 |
| Blocks per 90 | 0.85 | 1.52 |
| Interceptions per 90 | 0.68 | 0.91 |
Defensively, Sangare is statistically stronger in all key aspects, so replacing him with Luiz would either see Forest lose a defensive presence or see the Brazilian sacrifice his true strengths to adapt his game to the anchor role.
The pair are simply too different to be considered as direct alternatives to be exchanged, so Forest will have to find an alternative way to finance the Luiz move.
