Nottingham Forest fans all saying the same thing about potentially re-signing Matty Cash

Nottingham Forest are considering a late move to sign Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash.

With Aston Villa under PSR scrutiny, they’re under pressure to raise funds, and that’s prompted Forest to explore a deal to sign Cash.

The Poland international came through the Forest academy and made a whopping 141 appearances for the club.

Cash then left for Villa in a £16m transfer in 2020, where he has gone on to establish himself as a top-half full-back in the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants to bring the 28-year-old back to the City Ground to provide Ola Aina with competition and here’s how Nottingham Forest fans have reacted to the rumour.

How Nottingham Forest fans feel about re-signing Matty Cash

Forest fans have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to react to the potential signing of Cash, and they’re all saying the same thing.

“I am moved. And with Europe in mind, it actually makes perfect sense to bring him home. Get it done,” @LouisWheeldonNS posted.

@ImJamieMartin added: “Well, this is interesting! A depth signing. Would be a welcome sight seeing him back at the City Ground – kind of hoped we’d see the day! See what happens, but he’s a good option, with great experience and at a decent age. Cash-back?”

“Matty Cash makes a lot of sense in the context of us attempting to become European regulars. Yates is the only senior club-trained player at the club (you can register 4), so we’re essentially losing out on 3 squad places as it stands. This gives us more room to breathe,” @NottinghamRed99 commented.

@trainfanmatt explained: “I’m not normally a fan of going back to players who have played for the club before, but this just makes sense in every way. The homegrown thing for Europe plus it feels like Cash has unfinished business with us! Whether he wants to come to be 2nd fiddle is another matter.”

Nottingham Forest also exploring Rico Lewis deal

Nottingham Forest are also eyeing Rico Lewis from Manchester City and have already made a bid for the versatile defender.

That was swiftly rejected by the Citizens and manager Pep Guardiola is confident that Lewis will stay this summer.

“I think he’s going to stay, I think. He told me that! Today, I think he’s going to stay, but I don’t actually know what’s going to happen.”

Guardiola wasn’t totally convinced though, so clearly there is still an opportunity for the Tricky Trees to land his signature.

A telling couple of weeks await before the window slams shut on September 1st.
