Nottingham Forest get early deadline day blow from Fabrizio Romano

Nottingham Forest are going to be relatively quiet by their usual standards during the summer 2025 transfer deadline day.

The Reds were beaten 3-0 by West Ham United on Sunday to compound the misery of Nuno Espirito Santo, who quite clearly isn’t happy at the City Ground.

Elliot Anderson vowed that Forest will be back on social media, but this was a performance that leaves fans to ponder whether or not the writing is on the wall with Espirito Santo.

Forest could well lose six players on transfer deadline day as the club prioritises streamlining the squad and ridding it of the deadwood that still loiters around.

One winger might well be on the radar but it appears as though the Reds have been handed a very early blow on deadline day.

Fabrizio Romano makes Dodi Lukebakio claim

Forest were linked with Lukebakio over the weekend, with Forest supposedly switching their attention to the Sevilla player from Dilane Bakwa.

However, Romano has now dropped a ‘Here we go’ on the player signing for Benfica instead, with the deal set to go through on deadline day.

Forest would still like one more winger added to the squad before tonight’s 7pm deadline, and it remains to be seen whether they will get one over the line.

Lukebakio scored 11 times last season and claimed two assists, with Sevilla largely viewing him as a right-sided forward who had the versatility to adapt.

West Ham shocker highlights winger needs

It was a performance on home soil that did little to continue the excitement from the start of the season against West Ham.

Forest struggled to penetrate a team that came with a plan to frustrate and hit the Reds on the counter and it worked to perfection.

Despite having a plethora of substitutes on the bench, Espirito Santo chose not to call upon them and instead chose to throw on James McAtee to try and wrestle a goal instead.

Arnaud Kalimuendo and Omari Hutchinson both came on when it was too late and the performance and the whole situation surrounding Espirito Santo now must be under question.

Another winger could be in the pipeline today but now it seems that it definitely won’t be Lukebakio.
