There were not many positives to take away from Nottingham Forest’s 3-0 loss to Arsenal, but Ally McCoist believes Ange Postecoglou will already know his best player.

It was far from the start the Australian would have wanted, but with barely any time on the training ground, and against one of the league’s best teams, it was the likely outcome.

Dilane Bakwa made his debut, and fans have called for Bakwa to start their next match. His appearance was one of very few positives from the match.

However, the performance of another player caught the eye of commentator Ally McCoist, and he believes he is Forest’s best player.

Ally McCoist says Elliot Anderson is Nottingham Forest’s best player

Elliot Anderson has had a great few weeks. The Englishman made his debut for the national team, and received the man of the match award in both games over the international break.

He has been deservedly receiving plaudits across the football world, and now Ally McCoist has said he is Nottingham Forest’s best player.

While Forest struggled against the Gunners, McCoist took the time to praise Anderson saying, ‘I think he’s been Forest’s best player by a distance.’

And then when his commentating partner Darren Fletcher asked what Ange would have learned, the Scotsman replied, ‘That this fella [Anderson] is one of his better players if not his best player.’

It is high praise from Ally McCoist, especially considering that players such as Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood are in the squad.

The comment from the Scotsman just continues to highlight his importance to Nottingham Forest.

Elliot Anderson’s stats vs Arsenal

There is no doubt it was a tough day for the Nottingham Forest players at the Emirates.

Playing away against Premier League title challengers is no easy task, but Elliot Anderson was excellent in keeping play ticking when Forest had possession.

Anderson had more touches (93) than any of his other teammates, and completed 61 passes against Arsenal, with eight of those into the final third.

Additionally, when off the ball, the midfielder ended the match with 15 defensive contributions, and picked up more fouls than anyone else.

It was not a vintage Elliot Anderson performance, but nonetheless one still filled with immense quality, and Ange and Forest fans will have learned a lot from the Arsenal game.
