Micah Richards says he’s so annoyed with one thing he’s hearing about Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou is still in search of his first win as Nottingham Forest manager.

Since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo at the start of the month, Ange Postecoglou has drawn two and lost two of his first four games in charge.

Postecoglou’s Nottingham Forest side were much improved against Real Betis on Wednesday, though, and were unfortunate not to win.

The Australian head coach has already implemented his style of play, and there are positive signs emerging.

Micah Richards has now defended Postecoglou on one criticism he keeps hearing.

Micah Richards hits back at Ange Postecoglou critics

Postecoglou has come under a lot of criticism over the last year, or so, with his Premier League form dropping off significantly with Tottenham Hotspur.

That’s led many to question his level as a coach, but speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Richards has reminded those naysayers that he’s got a trophy to back it all up.

“Do you know what is annoying me about this Ange situation? You have to remember he won a trophy,” the pundit explained.

“Spurs in that season weren’t great, but he is a very good coach. In his first season they were fifth. It was a good achievement, but because they weren’t so great in the league last season, people were saying he’s not a good coach.

“He is a good coach, but at times we question whether he could adapt, and at the end of the season they did adapt, he adapted when they won a trophy.”

Wayne Rooney has been impressed with Ange Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest

Speaking after the Burnley game last weekend, Wayne Rooney said on BBC Match of the Day that he’s been really impressed by what he’s seen from Postecoglou at Forest and can see his methods being implemented.

“I think we’ve seen Ange’s philosophy here, in how he wants to play, and the players have taken it quite quickly,” Rooney explained.

“I was impressed with Nottingham Forest today. The rotation between Gibbs-White, Douglas Luiz, and Anderson, with Zinchenko picking up random positions and Forest were committing players forward.

“I think Ange will be really happy with the progress he has seen, disappointed to lose to Swansea, but with the progress he has seen since the Arsenal game, he will be really pleased to see that.”

A win against Sunderland this weekend would certainly silence those naysayers.
