Nottingham Forest were held to a 2-2 draw by Real Betis as the Reds participated in European competition for the first time in 30 years.

Igor Jesus was hailed by Michail Antonio after scoring twice in the first half, and he will be knocking on Ange Postecoglou’s door wanting to start in the Premier League next.

There were some top performances from Forest out in Seville, with Elliot Anderson catching the eye of Joe Cole who was covering the game for TNT Sports.

Morgan Gibbs-White also nabbed a first assist of the season during the game, and after the game, he received a message of support from an unlikely source.

Morgan Gibbs-White receives message from Moussa Niakhate

After last night’s game, a number of players took to Instagram to speak at their pride of playing in Europe for the club.

Gibbs-White was one of them, and he was clearly delighted to get the nod to captain the team with Ryan Yates starting on the bench once again.

The Forest number 10 posted: “Amazing feeling to represent this club in Europe. Support was top!”

Niakhate left Forest permanently in the summer of 2024 for a fee in the region of £27 million and he admitted to Gibbs-White that the Reds deserved more on Wednesday night.

He posted: “You deserved much better today. Amazing performance.”

Since the summer transfer saga involving Gibbs-White and Tottenham, the player’s form has been a little erratic.

However, the Reds captain is still very much a big game player, and he showcased that against Betis.

The number 10 started proceedings on the right, with Postecoglou choosing to go with a three-pronged midfield in Seville.

The tweak worked as Gibbs-White set up Jesus for his first goal of the night, and that will give the head coach something to think about.

There is so much more to come from Gibbs-White this season, and it’s hard to disagree with Niakhate when he says that Forest deserved more against Betis.
