Football is evolving all of the time, and Sean Dyche and Nottingham Forest have had some rotten VAR calls go against them this season.

Lots of people think it’s just sour grapes when Forest moan at decisions from match officials but it’s fair to say that the game has lost some of its spark since VAR came into force.

Earlier this season, Forest were on the wrong end of a couple of pretty bad calls, first in the Bournemouth away game and then at home to Manchester United.

Now, a rule change looks set to be sanctioned for the World Cup that will likely leave certain figures at Forest feeling pretty disgruntled.

Rule change will likely annoy Nottingham Forest head coach Sean Dyche

According to The Guardian, ahead of the World Cup, it looks as though Ifab are going to make a change to the rules that isn’t already in place when it comes to VAR and how it’s used in the Premier League.

The proposal is that if a corner is given that leads to a goal, it can now be checked after the decision, if the officials feel that the corner was awarded incorrectly.

Against Bournemouth, replays showed that the referee incorrectly awarded a corner after Neco Williams kicked the ball onto a defender, with Marcus Tavernier scoring directly from the corner.

The week later, when Forest faced Manchester United at home, Casemiro opened the scoring after the assistant referee, Akil Howson, awarded a corner, despite replays showing that the ball hadn’t actually gone out of play.

Football needs to address several VAR issues

Football has become farcical with the use of VAR, and frankly, it’s getting to the point where it’s becoming unwatchable, with decision-making taking an eternity sometimes.

The rules and protocols in place make no sense with some things, with second yellow cards unable to be checked in its current state, which makes no sense whatsoever.

With this rule change now set to come into place, it’s essentially the pencil pushers in the higher positions suggesting that the protocols and laws they’ve come up with right now aren’t fit for purpose.

It’s hard to imagine Dyche being too happy with these changes coming into force, however, it will at least provide officials with the chance to get more stuff right in future years.
