In truth, it’s quite remarkable that the club sanctioned the departure of Arnaud Kalimuendo without a new player lined up to come in.
Chris Wood is out injured long term, and that has been a major blow to the Reds this season, with the New Zealand star scoring 20 times in the Premier League last season.
Igor Jesus seems a dab hand at bagging in cup competitions with eight goals this season, but only one of those has come in the Premier League.
Now, Forest look to be closing in on signing a new talisman this month, with Dyche hoping to add to his squad in the coming weeks.

Nottingham Forest close to Youssef En-Nesyri signing
According to NTV Sport, Forest have had a bid accepted for the Morocco striker, although there are still some details to finalise before he can move to the Reds.
Fenerbahce are happy with the proposed sums from Forest, but they are keen to ensure that there is a purchase requirement included in an initial loan deal.
En-Nesyri has played 25 times during the 2025/26 campaign, scoring eight goals and claiming one assist, with Forest now keen to land him this month.
The international player previously rejected a move to England, with West Ham agreeing terms to land him, only for the player to hold reservations about the weather.
However, Forest look to have convinced him accordingly, and it feels as though this deal could now be very close for the Reds this month.
Forest need a striker desperately
There is no way Forest can remain a Premier League club this season without the aid of a new striker, and it appears as though Dyche concurs.
Ultimately, letting Kalimuendo leave is a real slight on Forest’s part and he should have been getting more minutes, with Igor Jesus the club’s only available striker other than the badly out-of-sorts Taiwo Awoniyi.

En-Nesyri is certainly capable of doing a job for Forest, although he will have to settle pretty quickly if he’s to score the required amount of goals that ensure the Reds remain in the Premier League this season.
The talisman has a proven track record of bagging wherever he’s been as a player and hopefully, Forest can get this one over the line this week.
