Alarming Nottingham Forest stat involving Chris Wood emerges after Liverpool defeat

Chris Wood scored 20 Premier League goals for Nottingham Forest last season, and the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool this weekend once again highlighted how badly missed he is.

The New Zealand striker is racing against the clock to be fit for the World Cup, and before that, he will hope to aid Forest when it comes to remaining a Premier League football club.

Who was your Nottingham Forest Man of the Match vs Liverpool?

Forest missed an abundance of chances, particularly in the first half against Liverpool, with the Reds conceding through an Alexis Mac Allister goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

As Forest count the cost of more missed chances on home soil, an alarming statistic has emerged, and if it can’t be improved, it feels certain that the Reds will be relegated this season.

Alarming Chris Wood statistic emerges

As Jesus failed, once again, to build on his strong Europa League form with a Premier League goal, a statistic emerged which is absolutely damning.

The statistic is centred around Wood, with the stricken striker the last talisman to score at the City Ground in a Premier League game since the opening day of the campaign.

Frankly, that is not good enough and Jesus has to start stepping up to ensure that the Reds don’t get sucked into the relegation zone in the coming weeks.

Wood is on the mend, according to Vitor Pereira, and it feels like the Reds need him back quickly if the season is to be rescued with the closing stages quickly approaching.

Jesus needs backing but he’s got to step up

The Brazilian striker has clearly got some talent, but ultimately his goalscoring record in the Premier League has been largely woeful, with a number of big chances missed.

Had Wood been fit this season, it seems likely that Forest wouldn’t even be in the relegation mix with just 25 goals coming from 27 matches this season.

Instead, Europe has become a massive inconvenience for the Reds with league points badly needed in order to pull clear and make the last weeks of the season more comfortable.

This statistic is alarming and is once again another abysmal look at a campaign that supporters simply can’t wait to see the end of.
