Nuno Espirito Santo rarely picked Carlos Miguel for Nottingham Forest, and now the Brazilian has lifted the lid on his time with the club.

Miguel signed for Forest in the summer of 2024 from Corinthians and was expected to challenge for a place in the first team.

If they’re both fit, who is the number one goalkeeper at Nottingham Forest?

Let us know who should get the nod in the comments below…

However, he departed the City Ground 12 months later without a Premier League outing to his name, making three appearances for the club, all in cup competitions.

Miguel has now given an interview in Brazil, where he currently plays for Palmeiras, discussing his time at Forest last season.

Carlos Miguel came to Nottingham Forest to play

In Brazil, it would appear as though Miguel has been criticised for making the move to Europe and then heading back just 12 months later.

Miguel has now lifted the lid on his time with the club, admitting that he came to play.

He told ESPN Brazil: “I know I can perform at the highest level. I left Brazil, seen as a player who could reach the national team.

“The manager chose not to play me, which is his decision. Then the other goalkeeper became one of the best in the Premier League. I want minutes, and that’s why I ended up coming back here.”

Miguel never really showcased much during his time in England and was injured against Exeter in the FA Cup – his final appearance for the club.

Miguel timed his move to Forest awfully

It’s hard to predict things in football, but Miguel’s timing for his move to Forest couldn’t have gone much worse.

He mentions Sels becoming one of the best goalkeepers in the league, and quite clearly, the presence of Miguel as competition was enough to kick the Belgian to the next level.

How confident are you that Nottingham Forest will avoid relegation this season?

It’s no surprise that Miguel headed back to Brazil after a single season on Trentside, and John Victor might follow suit in the summer by heading back to South America after only signing last summer.

Miguel will now be the number one at Palmeiras and it will be fascinating to see if he does return to Europe or make the Brazil squad in the coming years.
