The end of injury hell could be near for Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood, with the Reds desperately needing their talisman to save them.

Wood bagged 20 goals last season to lead Forest into Europe, but this time around it’s been a struggle, with the New Zealand performer injured since November.

The experienced striker has been sorely missed, with Forest struggling for goals across the campaign to threaten the club’s Premier League status.

Wood will be fit to play again this season, however, and now a hint has been dropped by the club that he’s perhaps nearing a return.

Chris Wood spotted in Forest training

Shortly after Forest claimed a very credible draw against Fulham on Sunday afternoon, the Reds posted an emotional video of a young supporter coming to the club to ring the bell after beating cancer.

Noah has been an inspiration after fighting to beat Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in December 2023.

He wrote to the club and asked them if he could celebrate by ringing the bell on the training ground with his Forest heroes.

The footage was filmed recently, and in the video, Wood can be spotted greeting Noah after coming off the training pitch in the club’s latest training gear.

That represents a huge boost for Wood, who has been a huge miss for Forest, and the hope now will be that he can return to the pitch very soon.

Wood could return in mid-April

The New Zealand Post produced an article on New Zealand’s latest squad being announced yesterday, and naturally, Wood was omitted.

They have, however, claimed that Wood is on course for a mid-April return, and that could mean that he’s available for selection when Forest face Aston Villa after the international break.

It’s believed that he’s on track to stick to the timescale for his recovery, and with the player seemingly in training, there is no reason why he should suffer any more setbacks.

Wood could be Forest’s saviour this season and the hope will be that he can stay fit and start converting some of the chances being created by Forest on a regular basis.
