It’s fair to say that Newcastle United will be absolutely kicking themselves over Elliot Anderson’s move to Nottingham Forest.
In fairness, the Magpies were powerless. It was either sell Anderson for £35 million to Forest for a 100% profit sale on the PSR spreadsheet or risk a points deduction.
The fact that Forest sold Odysseas Vlachodimos to Newcastle for £20 million to offset the difference makes a mockery of the whole thing, however, and you can see why Newcastle fans have a gripe.
A huge statement from Declan Rice about Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson – will the pair play together for England at the World Cup?
Still, Newcastle’s loss is the Reds’ gain, especially now it’s claimed that Forest want £125 million for his services this summer.
Alan Shearer still finds the whole debacle no easier, however, and has once again spoken about how sore he is over the sale.

Alan Shearer despises PSR after Elliot Anderson sale
On the latest episode of The Rest is Football, talk turned towards how brilliant Anderson was against Sunderland during the 5-0 victory.
The number eight scored, but talk quickly turned towards PSR, with Anderson’s sale still causing Shearer some sleepless nights, it seems.
The conversation between him and Gary Lineker went as follows…
Shearer: “How good was Elliot Anderson at the weekend?”
Lineker: “He’s courting a lot of interest, Elliot Anderson, obviously he’s former Newcastle…”
Shearer: “Oh, don’t talk to me about that crap, PSR or SCR or whatever they call it…”
Lineker: “He’s been linked with City and United.”
Shearer: “I mean, yeah he’s been outstanding at Forest you know…”
Lineker: It’s so wrong that is, you should be encouraged to sell players that don’t come from your academy, shouldn’t you?”
Shearer: “It’s outrageous, it’s wrong that you have players from a young age, but yet that’s the best way for you to try to compete is to sell those players.
“I get that it’s worked out for Elliot in terms of he wouldn’t have played as much at Newcastle, but his price tag now has rocketed because of what he’s done and his ability and everything else.”
Anderson has been magnificent during the last two seasons at Forest, helping the Reds to a seventh-place finish during 2024/25.
This season, he’s going to be integral to the team’s chances of remaining in the Premier League and winning the Europa League.
How much do you think Forest will manage to rake in for Elliot Anderson and Murillo?
Shearer does have a bit of a point but ultimately, Forest had the same situation with Brennan Johnson, although it’s fair to say he doesn’t have quite as much potential as Anderson.
Newcastle have endured a poor season of their own in 2025/26 and clearly, Shearer would like to see some changes made when it comes to PSR.
