Stan Collymore had a foot placed firmly in both camps as Nottingham Forest took on Aston Villa in the Europa League.

The former Forest striker is naturally fond of his former club, but as a devoted Brummie, he’s an Aston Villa supporter.

Naturally, that makes this clash of the former European Champions a nightmare for Collymore, with it impossible for him to pick a winner.

Who was your Man of the Match vs Aston Villa

After Chris Wood sent Forest into next week’s second leg with a slender one-goal advantage, the former striker analysed the game on social media and had special praise for Elliot Anderson.

What Stan Collymore said about Elliot Anderson

Collymore might have been a little miffed that Villa didn’t claim the advantage going into the second leg, but he still found time to praise Anderson.

The England international flexed his World Cup credentials with a quality performance in the middle of the park, and this was his best display for some time.

Collymore thinks Anderson is a certainty for the World Cup and he also made a prediction for the Forest man in the future when it comes to the international stage.

He said on social media: “Anderson. 10/10 starter for the World Cup. Rolls-Royce who will be England’s captain and an important one at that.”

Anderson will now hope to keep producing this level of performance as the season draws to a conclusion, with Forest still fighting in Europe and domestically.

The Reds are largely ahead in the Europa League tie thanks to Anderson’s brilliance and his work in stifling Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins didn’t go unnoticed last night.

Collymore is right to wax lyrical about the midfielder and it’s intriguing to see how his career will progress as a regular on the international stage.
