Nottingham Forest are out of the Europa League after an embarrassing 4-0 humbling at the hands of a rampant Aston Villa.

The hot topic before the game was the injury sustained by Morgan Gibbs-White, and he was only fit enough to take a place on the bench.

Still, the fact that he wasn’t called for as soon as Forest went 2-0 down suggests that he wasn’t actually fit enough to play, and he looked devastated sitting on the bench all night.

We exit the Europa League, what should Vitor Pereira have done different in the semi-final?

A second-half brace from John McGinn and goals from Emi Buendia and Ollie Watkins ensured an embarrassing rout for the Reds, who were left shellshocked.

Following the game, we looked at how the players scored out of 10:

Nottingham Forest player ratings vs Aston Villa

Stefan Ortega – 5

Could do nothing with the goals, unfortunately and did his very best to keep the score down, especially in the first half.

Jair Cunha – 3

Struggled horribly against Emi Buendia and Villa’s attacking options. That said, he’s not a right-back, and this proved an assignment too many for the youngster.

Nikola Milenkovic – 2

Inexplicable decision to pull down Victor Lindelof for Aston Villa’s second goal, which left Forest a mountain to climb, and he struggled to stay in touch with Ollie Watkins all night.

Morato – 4

His early booking absolutely killed his performance because he had started the game very well indeed.

Neco Williams – 4

Not his usual self, and couldn’t quite stay in touch with the

Elliot Anderson – 3

Wasn’t up for the fight sadly, gave the ball away an awful lot early on and became scrappier as the game wore on, losing the ball at free will.

Nicolas Dominguez – 4

Another who simply wasn’t at the races. Didn’t cope well enough with the threat that Villa possessed in the middle of the park.

Omari Hutchinson – 5

Had Forest’s best chance with a curling effort when the scores were level, but needed some studs in his boots as he slipped over on a number of occasions.

James McAtee – 4

Just didn’t impose himself on the game like he did against Chelsea on Monday and was hooked at half-time.

Igor Jesus – 3

Another who chose this semi-final to have his worst game for quite some time, couldn’t hold anything up and his touch was way off.

Chris Wood – 3

He struggled badly with holding the ball up in the first half, and this was his worst showing since returning from a serious knee injury. Perhaps a game too far for the experienced striker.

Substitutes

Ryan Yates – 4

Didn’t do much other than foul a lot, that said, he didn’t do a lot wrong either.

Lorenzo Lucca – 4

Hardly touched the ball, a strange substitute.

Dilane Bakwa – 4

Again struggled to make an impact, but didn’t do a lot wrong.
