Eyebrows were raised when Nottingham Forest parted with £35 million to sign Elliot Anderson from Newcastle in the summer of 2024.

Newcastle signed Odysseas Vlachodimos from Forest for £20 million, to offset the balance, and he made just one appearance for the Magpies.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST ARE SAFE!!!! What advice would you now give to Evangelos Marinakis ahead of next season?

Anderson, on the other hand, has become one of the top Premier League midfielders and looks set to star for England at the World Cup this summer.

Now, two years after his departure from Newcastle, Howe has spoken about how he really feels about Anderson leaving St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe still hurting after selling Elliot Anderson

PSR isn’t fit for purpose, but when it comes to Anderson, it’s hard to have too many complaints from a Forest perspective.

The Reds have seen him grow into an unbelievable footballer at the City Ground, and Forest will make a significant profit on the £35 million they paid for him.

After Sunday’s game, Howe was quizzed on Anderson, and he doesn’t think he will ever be more reluctant to sell a player throughout his managerial career.

The Newcastle boss told the press: “It was something we regretted when we were doing it. We knew that it would be a very, very painful transfer. We had no choice, but it was probably the most reluctant transfer I’ll ever make.

“It really hurts seeing him do that against us. He’s going to go and have a fantastic career, wherever he goes.”

Anderson is being valued at around £120 million by Evangelos Marinakis and ultimately, Forest staying in the Premier League will help the club recoup that.

Manchester City and Manchester United are both reportedly keen on the services of Anderson this summer and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Forest have to get their plans in order ahead of his sale, and replacing the number eight will be one of the most important pieces of business the club does all summer.
