The first Nottingham Forest representative at this year’s World Cup took to the pitch on Saturday, with Dan Ndoye starting for Switzerland.

Forest have a number of players who thought they might be heading to the World Cup this summer but were left at home, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Matz Sels among those.

What did you make of Dan Ndoye’s display for Switzerland against Qatar?😥

He managed just 2/6 attempts on target! 😲

However, Ndoye was one player who was always going to go to the tournament, with the winger unshakable when it comes to his selection for Switzerland.

National media criticise Dan Ndoye after Qatar stunner

This World Cup has so far thrown up some surprising moments and none more so than the late equaliser that Qatar scored to stun Switzerland.

Ndoye wasn’t on the pitch when they scored in stoppage time, but there is an argument that his wayward finishing cost his nation the chance of a big three points to kick off their campaign.

The Forest man could have scored a first-half hat-trick but instead was left to rue some shot-shy finishing, with 20 Minuten scoring him a mediocre 3/6.

They said: “Has three top chances, but sand in front of the goal. On a good day, he takes at least one chance, but against Qatar, he misses them all.”

Forest fans won’t be surprised by Ndoye’s performance

Ultimately, Ndoye is too inconsistent, and although he came into this tournament with goalscoring performances against Jordan and Australia, it’s all too infrequent with him.

Ndoye might feel as though he’s putting himself in the shop window this summer with his performances at the World Cup, but this won’t have endeared him to any potential buyers.

The first two chances that Ndoye missed essentially summed him up, with the Forest man getting into position brilliantly before inexplicably fluffing his lines.

What the future holds for Ndoye beyond the World Cup remains to be seen, but he will hope to improve in games for his country against Canada and Bosnia in the coming weeks.
