Ange Postecoglou was sacked by Nottingham Forest back in October.

Postecoglou was in charge for just 39 days as he failed to win any of his eight games in charge, losing six of them.

It was a complete disaster, and many Nottingham Forest fans weren’t convinced from the off after his up-and-down final season at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Australian manager has been out of work since then but is currently working as an ITV Sport pundit for the World Cup.

That said, Postecoglou is now being tipped for a very interesting job back in the dugout.

Ange Postecoglou tipped to join Scotland

Following Scotland’s exit from the World Cup, manager Steve Clarke has decided to resign after seven years in charge.

Everton boss David Moyes is emerging as an early frontrunner, although that seems very unlikely given he has another year left on his contract.

Postecoglou is also being heavily mooted for the vacancy after his success north of the border with Celtic.

The Scotsman journalist Barry Anderson has reported on X: “The Scottish FA would be likely to sound out Ange Postecoglou on the quiet. He is the type of character needed. Scotland teams are suited to playing on the front foot, which is Postecoglou’s speciality, but money may be an issue.”

It’s widely reported that Postecoglou was on a £3m-a-year contract at Forest, so he would likely have to take a substantial pay cut to join the Tartan Army.

It remains to be seen whether he is even open to the prospect of international football, having already spent several years in it with the Australian national team.

Speaking back in 2023, Postecoglou explained that he wasn’t enjoying international football towards the end, and it’s why he decided to leave Australia before the World Cup in 2018.

“I walked away from a World Cup and the reason I walked away was I just didn’t enjoy what I was doing.

“I’ve said all along, it’s not just winning games of football. It’s got to be a higher purpose and my higher purpose in Australia was to change the game. I just don’t think that will happen.

“For a lot of people (the World Cup) is their biggest dream and I gave it up. I’d been to 2014 anyway but I knew it was the right decision. And if I didn’t make that decision at that time, if I had waited until after the World Cup, I’ve got no doubt I wouldn’t be sitting here now.”

Based on those quotes, it’s hard to see the former Forest manager joining Scotland.
