The Nottingham Forest squad are awaiting news of the imminent arrival of Oliver Glasner to replace the outgoing Vitor Pereira.

As the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White and Murillo finish off their close-season holidays, the attention will soon turn towards working alongside a new head coach.

Jota Silva is one player who looks set to leave the City Ground, with Olympiacos set to win the race to sign him, with other squad players now set to be looking over their shoulders.

Whilst Gibbs-White and Murillo will definitely be safe from Glasner’s axe, others won’t be so lucky and ahead of the Austrian arriving at the club, we’ve looked at three players who face a fight for their Forest future.

A good appointment? 🤔

Three Nottingham Forest players who Oliver Glasner could move on

James McAtee

Towards the end of the 2025/26 season, it’s fair to say that McAtee did show some flashes of brilliance that didn’t go unnoticed among the fan base.

However, given that McAtee operates largely in the same position as Gibbs-White, it feels as though Glasner will prefer players with a little bit more flexibility.

McAtee is useful on the ball, but given that he’s quite lightweight, Glasner might look for a player such as Ismaila Sarr to come in who can offer a little bit more physicality going forward.

Chris Wood

Although there’s an argument that Wood deserves huge credit for how he’s conducted himself at Forest, it’s not unfair to say that his best days are perhaps behind him.

Wood suffered a serious knee injury last season that kept him out of action for six months of the season, and as a 34-year-old, that doesn’t bode well.

Although Wood scored 20 goals in 2024/25, it’s unlikely he will scale those heights again at Forest, and even if Glasner doesn’t sell him, he might only consider him a backup option at best.

Taiwo Awoniyi

Although Awoniyi finished the season relatively well at the City Ground, it’s likely that Glasner will want a better quality striker should he sign one during the transfer window.

Awoniyi scored very important goals last season, just as he has done since arriving at the club shortly after Forest won promotion to the Premier League in 2022.

The uncompromising striker does have something to offer Forest should Glasner choose to keep him, but with the club hoping to sign a striker to go alongside Chris Wood and Igor Jesus, the prospects of Awoniyi playing much seem bleak.

If Awoniyi does find a new club, he would go with the best wishes of the fan base who have unanimously grown to love the Nigerian over the years.
