Nottingham Forest are preparing for life under the management of Oliver Glasner after he replaced Vitor Pereira this week.

Glasner has won three trophies with Crystal Palace, winning the FA Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Conference League over the last 12 months.

With some pre-season plans already finalised before Glasner’s arrival, it now appears as though two big European clubs will gear up to play Forest ahead of the new season.

Nottingham Forest set for Barcelona test

Although Forest got a taste of playing European opposition last season, none of the teams faced were as huge as Barcelona.

The Reds reached the semi-final of the Europa League before crumbling with several key players missing during the second leg against Aston Villa.

However, after friendlies with Bayer Leverkusen and Brest were announced, Forest will now face a trip to face Udinese and Barcelona.

The triangular tournament will take place in Udine on the weekend of August 8th and will feature three games involving the trio of clubs.

The concept will provide Forest with two strong tests ahead of the new season, which will kick off two weeks following this event.

Have Forest played Barcelona before?

Forest have played Barcelona on three occasions, with only two of those considered as competitive matches.

The clash between the two sides came in 1980 when Forest beat Barcelona 2-1 on aggregate to win the European Super Cup.

A 1-0 win at the City Ground was followed up with a 1-1 draw at the Nou Camp.

The other time the two sides played saw Forest come up against the legendary Argentine Diego Maradona.

That was contested in 1983 for the Joan Gamper Trophy, with Barca running out 2-0 winners on that occasion.
