Over the weekend, it emerged that Nottingham Forest were interested in signing Daizen Maeda from Celtic.
The Japan international has caught the eye at the World Cup, where he helped his country reach the round of 32 before succumbing to Brazil.
Maeda has been producing the goods for Celtic over the past few seasons, and now he’s being linked with a move south of the border.
On the back of the interest from Forest in Maeda, some fans have started to share whether or not he’d be a decent addition to the ranks this summer.

Goals and assists in abundance for Celtic but how would YOU feel about Daizen Maeda signing for Forest this summer?
£20m feels very cheap!
What Nottingham Forest fans are saying about Daizen Maeda
Nottingham Forest fans have taken to TalkingPoints to discuss this link that has emerged, and the general consensus is that the club should walk away.
The player will soon be 29, and as a result, most fans believe that he’s too old to move to England for the first time and make an impact.
One fan on our TalkingPoints App was adamant that Maeda should be nowhere near Forest, saying:
Another was also sceptical, believing it’s always a risk to sign a player from the Scottish top-flight, saying:
Another fan was more concerned about the transfer fee that would potentially be required, adding:
Some fans were less than ecstatic on X too, suggesting that there are far better players out there than Maeda.
One fan wrote: “No. Mediocre stats in a rubbish league.”
Another was unsure of his position, saying: “No. Too old, and we don’t need players in that position.”
One fan was concerned that he wasn’t a big enough name, saying: “Who? Am I supposed to know all these random players we’re being linked with?”
Finally, one fan said: “He’s League One level, Championship at best.”
Forest unlikely to sign Maeda
It does feel as though the signing of Maeda is unlikely to appease new head coach Oliver Glasner.
Maeda is just a little bit too old to make an impact at Forest and although a new forward is likely this summer, it’s fanciful that a bigger name will be added.
What should Oliver Glasner’s target be in the Premier League this season? 🤔
Forest aren’t short of a bob or two following the sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City, and as a result, the players who come to the club will likely be in a better bracket than Maeda.
A fee of £20 million will hardly break the coffers, but any players who are added to the ranks this summer need to be better than the current crop, and quite frankly, Maeda isn’t.
