Furthermore, the Reds have seemingly been linked with thousands of players, with some others not coming to fruition.

Forest have a very healthy desire to keep scouring South America for transfer targets, with the likes of Murillo, Danilo and Igor Jesus proving good signings from Brazil.

Now, another South American who will be well-known in the minds of the Forest fan base is finally set to move to Europe.

Who should be the official Nottingham Forest captain? Stick with Ryan Yates or give it permanently to Morgan Gibbs-White?

Marcos Leonardo set to sign for Ajax

In 2023, it seemed as though Forest were rather close to landing Leonardo with the Santos youngster in the sights of some of the world’s biggest clubs.

Instead, he chose to move to Al-Hilal, but after chasing the financial side of the game on that occasion, he’s now set to test himself in Europe.

Ajax are landing Leonardo for just £15 million, and that represents a real steal for a player who, at 23, still has bags of potential to unearth.

Leonardo scored 48 goals in 82 appearances for Al-Hilal and after being linked with Forest in 2023, it will be fascinating to see how he performs with the Dutch giants.

Forest will continue looking towards the Brazilian league for top talents, with Murillo being the one who has grown as a player at the City Ground.

Ultimately, the Reds will be looking to get some new players over the line this summer, and it remains to be seen whether or not any South Americans arrive.

Oliver Glasner will get to work this week as the team returns for pre-season training, and it’s imperative that the club gives him the tools to allow him to do the job to the best of his ability.
