Nottingham Forest missing out on Mateo Kovacic could unlock two possible signings for Oliver Glasner

Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic could be on his way out of the club this summer, with Nottingham Forest linked with the international.

The Croatia midfielder has a host of clubs chasing his signature, and the four-time Champions League winner would be a catch this summer.

Kovacic has bags of experience, including 209 Premier League appearances and 117 caps for his country.

Now, it seems as though a Champions League club is keen to sign Kovacic, and if they do get him, it could help Forest unlock two signings for Oliver Glasner.

Mateo Kovacic could sign for Inter

According to reputable Italian transfer journalist Mateo Moretto, Kovacic could now sign for Italian champions Inter this summer.

Kovacic isn’t going to be short of suitors given his experience and ability at the top level, and Moretto believes they’re now very keen.

He said on his YouTube channel: “Kovacic could leave City. His contract expires in 2027, he’s 32 years old, he’s already played for Inter, so Inter knows him very well, Ausilio knows him very well, and what I want to add to you is that in the last few hours, in the last few days, well, Mateo Kovacic’s profile was proposed to Inter.

“Clearly, some exits are needed first, but he’s an experienced, quality profile that Inter knows well, that Piero knows well. We’ll see if this type of contact can actually turn into a real negotiation over the transfer window.”

Kovacic to Inter could unlock two players for Forest to sign

Inter are only looking for one central midfielder and given that Curtis Jones is also among their targets, Kovacic moving there could give Forest a free run at the Liverpool star.

Jones would welcome a move to play more frequently this summer, even if Andoni Iraola would actually quite like to keep him for another season.

Another player who Kovacic to Inter might help Forest sign is Davide Frattesi.

The Italian has long been admired by Forest but the Serie A champions will not be moving on until a replacement is sought.

Plenty of Forest fans aren’t too keen on signing the Italy international, but if Glasner gives the move the green light, it could be all systems go.

Forest need a replacement for Elliot Anderson this summer and if Kovacic moves to Inter, one of two linked midfielders could quickly sign for the Reds.
