Zach Abbott is the latest Nottingham Forest academy graduate trying desperately to force his way into the first team on a regular basis.
Abbott rose to prominence in the 2024/25 campaign when Nuno Espirito Santo handed him a shock start in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Wembley.
Fill in the gap: Ibrahim Sangare has been a __/10 signing for Forest?
Are you happy he's penned a new deal and who should be next in line for one?
The academy graduate got minutes last season with Forest in the Europa League, and he will be hoping for more of an impact domestically this season.
Forest are two days into the pre-season swing under Oliver Glasner, and Abbott might have already done something to give the new head coach food for thought.

Zach Abbott wins the pre-season beep test
Forest head coach Glasner decided to put his players through the dreaded beep test as part of his pre-season opening gambit, with the technical term these days being the yo-yo test.
As a bit of fun, the exercise was turned into a competition, and in the end, Abbott outlasted winger Omari Hutchinson to claim the bragging rights over his teammates.
Given that Abbott is a younger member of the squad, it’s perhaps not overly surprising that he won the day in the blazing heat at the training ground.
However, the fact he has won suggests that he’s determined to prove a point to Glasner in the early exchanges of pre-season training.
Why Glasner will be happy with Abbott
Glasner will likely try to get his team playing a 3-4-3 formation when the season gets underway, and that will leave a fight for the third centre-back.
Forest have Morato, who stood in last season when Murillo or Nikola Milenkovic missed out last season but the spot is up for grabs.
Will Oliver Glasner utilise any of the forgotten men at Nottingham Forest? If so, who?
Let us know who you have high hopes for…
Abbott will be craving a chance at centre-back after filling in as a full-back last season, and clearly, he’s determined to grasp the chance of a clean slate with Glasner.
It will be fascinating to see what the future holds for the youngster, and with Forest looking at new centre-backs, Abbott might get a chance to prove himself in the early pre-season games.
