Nottingham Forest are stepping up their efforts to bring new players to the club as Oliver Glasner starts life at the City Ground.

Pre-season training got underway on Monday, and Glasner has given his first interview as the Reds’ incumbent earlier today.

On Saturday, Glasner will lead his team for the first time, with Notts County the hosts as Forest travel to Meadow Lane for a friendly.

With Xaver Schlager set to sign for Nottingham Forest, it now appears as though the Reds are getting themselves a pretty decent player.

What Christopher Baumgartner said about Xaver Schlager

Baumgartner has played a number of games with Schlager at the international level, and he has previously been quizzed on the midfielder.

He has endorsed the Forest move, and the statement he previously made is quite something and makes for an exciting wait to see him in action.

Baumgartner said: “When he’s fit, he’s one of the best No. 6s in the world. He’s that good.”

That is quite the sentiment for a player who has played his football largely in Germany, and after recovering from a serious injury in recent years, he will have to prove himself at Forest.

The fact that he’s not played in the Premier League is not ideal, but given the vast experience he does have and the relationship he holds with Glasner does help.

Forest will now hope that he can quickly join the ranks and start making an impact on the pitch.
