Nottingham Forest could be about to give a nudge to several of the Premier League’s big-hitters with the first signing of the Oliver Glasner era.
Glasner has overseen two wins from two games in pre-season so far, with Wednesday’s win over Blackburn coming just days after a victory over Notts County.

Although Forest have often been the butt of ridicule for their work in the transfer market, a lot of that is ignorant and lazy, with many harking back to the summer of 2022 when 23 new players were added.
Now, however, it’s 2026 and perhaps Forest have just shown big clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool just how things are done in the transfer market.
Forest offer advice to Liverpool and Chelsea
Forest are going to sign Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP for a fee of around £37 million and that is quite remarkable business.
The Ivorian could be worth triple that valuation in a few years, and at that point he’ll likely have Europe’s top clubs chasing him should he do well.
Chelsea have been linked with Forest star Murillo previously, and ultimately they will have to pay far more than the £10.6 million which Forest paid to sign him from Corinthians.
Likewise, Liverpool are going to be looking for a central defender in the coming years, and Diomande had been linked with the Reds previously.
It’s baffling that these top six clubs would rather sit by and watch someone like Diomande go to Forest for a fee considered a pittance to the big boys, only to pay ridiculous sums should they do well when they first come to England.
Quite why these so-called bigger clubs don’t just recruit properly in the first place is remarkable, and it’s almost as if there is a sense of snobbery when it comes to shopping around Europe.
Liverpool and Chelsea’s loss is clearly Forest’s gain, and hopefully, Diomande can now be a big hit should he sign for the Reds.

Forest deserve less flak for transfer business
It’s such a lazy narrative to presume that Forest simply have a scattergun approach to recruitment, and it’s about time such claims ended.
Forest constantly buy players in brilliantly priced deals and then sell them for significant profit, most notably with the recent Elliot Anderson deal.
Diomande could be another deal that turns out to be a masterstroke, and ultimately, some of the bigger clubs might end up digging deep for him in a few years.
Evangelos Marinakis often gets criticism thrown in his direction, but when it comes to transfers, he’s got a team of people in place who, in fairness, very rarely get things badly wrong.
