Nottingham Forest have won two pre-season games so far this summer, but it’s a time when expectations should be tempered a little bit.
It’s very hard to get too carried away when things are going well, and on the flip side, fans shouldn’t go too over the top when things go wrong.
Whilst the Forest squad get to work on impressing Oliver Glasner, there was despair for one former Reds performer during his latest pre-season outing on Saturday.
FILL IN THE GAP: Ernest Poku would be a __/10 signing…
Forest are eyeing the Leverkusen performer.
Brennan Johnson slammed for pre-season showing
Eyebrows were raised when Crystal Palace signed Brennan Johnson from Tottenham when the January transfer window opened in January.
In truth, he never really felt like a Glasner signing, and he didn’t really manage to get a tune out of the former Forest man following his arrival.
Johnson swapped Forest for Tottenham in the summer of 2023, with the Reds recouping around £50 million for the academy graduate’s signature.

Yesterday, Palace were beaten by Bromley 3-0, with the League One outfit looking comfortable throughout the contest.
Some footage of Johnson is doing the rounds and it makes for grim viewing from his perspective as he passes the ball out of play with literally nobody near him.
Palace fans have slammed Johnson for his time at the club so far and quite clearly, they’re not fancying him as a player who can improve the club this season.
Forest have moved on from Johnson
It’s always a romantic notion that a player like Johnson will one day return to the City Ground, but it’s unlikely to be any time soon.
Forest have moved on from Johnson, and there’s an argument that all of the wingers in place at the City Ground have more potential than the former Reds star.
Forest are indebted to Johnson for the work he did to get Forest up and then keep them there, but as his latest Palace showing reveals, there is a serious confidence issue with the Welsh performer at the moment.
