Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has been discussing how he manages his various business interests.

The 51-year-old completed a transaction two years ago to become the majority shareholder at the City Ground. He took over at the helm from Fawaz Al-Hasawi, who had become an extremely unpopular figure among supporters.

It’s fair to say that the club’s future looks a lot brighter now than it did then. Even if there is still a lot of work to do on the field, the Reds are now a completely different animal off the field.

Of course, the Reds aren’t the only club that Marinakis has an interest in. He has also been owner of Greek giants Olympiacos since mid-2010. He has enjoyed great success with the Greek Superleague outfit, including winning the league title for seven consecutive seasons.

In addition to this, the bulk of his business portfolio involves shipping, and he has also delved into the media. He recently launched a new television channel called ‘The One Channel’ in his homeland.

He hasn’t got time to be constantly involved at the City Ground. This is why he has prioritised appointing the right staff behind the scenes to ensure the club is being run properly.

‘To do all this is extremely difficult to stay on top’

He has recently spoken on television in Greece on how he manages his various business ventures. In a translated transcript of the interview, published by FWS, he said: “It’s hard, because it’s different.

“Other things to do with shipping, with football, with the municipality, with the media. I like to create. I do not get tired easily. You will not hear me telling you that I’m tired, because I’m glad.

“The good thing is what I have done to date is championship. Our shipping companies, Olympiacos, ‘Ta Nea’ and ‘To Vima’ (newspapers), even Nottingham Forest, are leading.

“To do all this is extremely difficult to stay on top. We have achieved something very difficult.”

The Reds finished ninth in the Championship last season, after an underwhelming second half of the season. But the fact they won their last three games has injected a certain level of belief back into the club.

And Reds fans will be reassured by their club’s owner’s words, and will be hoping he can fund a number of quality signings again this summer. It remains to be seen exactly how much money Martin O’Neill is given to spend.
