Nottingham Forest youngster Jordan Gabriel won promotion to the Championship with Blackpool yesterday to cap a fine end to his loan spell.
The Tangerines recovered from going 1-0 down inside the first minute to beat Lincoln City 2-1 at Wembley.
Gabriel didn’t actually get on the pitch. Neil Critchley chose Ollie Turton at right-back, leaving the Forest man unused.
Nonetheless, he has played his part in the promotion-winning season and after the game he took to Instagram.
He posed with the trophy after the victory and received praise from Lyle Taylor, Tyrese Fornah and ex-Reds star Jamie Paterson.
What next for Gabriel?
Well, Forest are in need of a right-back and a window of opportunity presents itself to the youngster.
He actually started the first two games of the 2020/21 campaign. When the club added Cyrus Christie on loan, however, he was allowed to join Blackpool.
It seems unlikely that Forest will return for Christie and Chris Hughton could place his faith in Gabriel.
He will definitely benefit from the regular game time under Critchley and could thrive at the City Ground.
What sort of player is he?
Gabriel simply loves to defend. Christie came in for a lot of criticism for that aspect of his game and the 22-year-old should improve Forest in that sense.
Gabriel will perhaps need to develop when it comes to marauding forward but in time that should come.
At Blackpool he caught the eye of supporters with some strong tackles and superb positional sense on the field.
Forest have Carl Jenkinson under contract for next season but he’s never really been fancied.
Some reports have even suggested that the ex-Arsenal man will be allowed to leave in the summer.
That means the shirt is available for Gabriel and if he does impress Hughton he could start the campaign as the first-choice right-back in the Championship.
