Nottingham Forest are edging close to their first signing of the summer. Football Insider claim that Emiliano Marcondes is now in talks with the Reds after his Brentford contract expired.

The 26-year-old helped the Bees into the Premier League last season. His goal in the 2-0 win over Swansea in the Play-Off Final put the seal on a famous win.

It wasn’t enough to earn him an extension though. Marcondes was one of three first-team players not offered a new contract and is now on the lookout for a new club.

He played 40 times during 2020/21, starting eight games in Thomas Frank’s team. The versatile midfielder scored three goals and claimed three assists.

Marcondes can play as a conventional midfielder or as a No.10. He stands at 6ft tall and played in both games against Forest during 2020/21.

The Reds are somewhat short of midfielders. As a result, the signing of the former Danish youth international makes a lot of sense.

He looks like the type of player that would allow Forest to tweak their system in-game. His passing is incisive and he can prove a real nuisance around the penalty area.

After last season’s showpiece play-off final, Frank called Marcondes ‘remarkable’ after his goalscoring heroics for the Bees.

Marcondes to Forest: Deal would represent strong start to recruitment drive

This would be a nice addition to the Reds squad. Forest have had to wait a little while to get a deal over the line, but Marcondes should go down well with supporters.

He is a real trier and he adhered himself to the Brentford faithful with his creativity and ability to unlock defences.

Forest will need to make this the first of a few summer signings. It’s not unfair to suggest that a left-back, another midfield, a winger and probably at least one striker are all required.

With the new CEO set to be in place next week, business could start to pick up on Trentside.

Forest need to improve on their 17th place finish last season when the action gets underway. The signing of Marcondes will certainly enhance the team’s chances of a solid campaign.
