Daniel Ballard departed Arsenal yesterday, joining Millwall on a season-long loan. Following the confirmation, Nottingham Forest gem Jordan Gabriel reacted to the move on Instagram.

Ballard is a future star at the Emirates Stadium. He’s yet to make his first-team debut and last season he went on loan to Blackpool where he played 30 times.

During his time at Bloomfield Road, he was a teammate of Gabriel. The Forest man was also a loan signing by the Tangerines and spent time playing in Blackpool’s back four with Ballard.

Forest’s 22-year-old will hope to earn a first-team chance at the City Ground during 2021/22. Meanwhile, the Arsenal talent will hope to show the Gunners what he is capable of at Championship level.

What has Forest talent Gabriel said about Ballard going on loan?

Quite simply he has summed up the move in one word. Gabriel clearly saw how talented Ballard was last season when he starred alongside him.

A step up to the Championship should be a seamless transition for both players. Gabriel should get a chance under Chris Hughton at Forest, whilst Ballard should be a mainstay in Gary Rowett’s team.

Mikel Arteta will be monitoring the Arsenal man closely. He has chopped and changed his defence a lot since being appointed and the youngster could see an opportunity arise eventually.

For Gabriel, the time really is now at Forest. He has returned to the club and has been propelled to the club’s number one right-back. Cyrus Christie has returned to Fulham, whilst Carl Jenkinson has been told he can leave (The Athletic).

At 22 and with a full season of first-team football under his belt, Gabriel could thrive at Forest. He played the first two games last season before joining Blackpool.

He shone alongside Ballard and he’s clearly delighted for his teammate. The 2021/22 campaign looks like being an exciting time for both players.
