A report by Chronicle Live has claimed that Nottingham Forest are demanding £600,000 for Jordan Gabriel.
Sunderland and Blackpool have been linked with moves, although the Reds will only consider a sale if they can sign a replacement.
Gabriel played the first two games of last season in the Forest first-team. Following the arrival of Cyrus Christie, however, he was allowed to leave on loan.
He made 35 appearances for Blackpool, helping Neil Critchley’s team win promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.
The Tangerines are keen to have him back, although Sunderland are also closely monitoring his situation.
Gabriel has been used frequently during Forest’s pre-season campaign. Right now, he’s in possession of the shirt and Hughton is willing to give him a chance.
With that in mind, there is still plenty for any club to do in order to sign him. If the Reds don’t land a right-back themselves, the 22-year-old will be staying put.
Gabriel has risen through the Forest ranks. He now has the experience of last season under his belt and plenty of supporters want to see him get a chance.
Future star: Forest can’t offload Gabriel
Make no bones about it, the Reds should refrain from offloading their right-back during the current transfer window.
Forest are set to place their trust in youth this season and Gabriel deserves a chance to be involved in that.
He was largely impressive for Blackpool during 2020/21 and after learning his trade in League One, the Championship should beckon.
Forest won’t be blessed with an abundance of money to spend this summer and they must tread carefully in the market.
As a result, it seems pointless to pursue another right-back and Gabriel deserves a run of games in Hughton’s team.
