Many said he was finished, others said he wasn’t good enough but Lewis Grabban has roared back with a vengeance during 2021/22 and some Forest fans might want to be careful what they wish for.

“Get Luke Jephcott”, “Sign Dion Charles”, “throw the lot at Joe Pigott”, were all cries from Forest fans on Twitter. “We can’t possibly expect to do anything this season with Grabban up front,” came the call from angry Reds fans.

With 11 games played during the new campaign, however, Grabban is back to doing what he does best. After a slow start for everyone associated with Forest, the 33-year-old has been silencing his critics.

Since Chris Hughton departed, the Reds talisman has three goals to his name. He scored against Huddersfield, again at Barnsley and fired home a cracker against Birmingham.

Perhaps interestingly though, the League One strikers Forest fans wanted to see come into the club aren’t pulling up any trees.

Jephcott has four league goals; although three of those came in the opening month of the campaign. Plymouth also fancy their main talisman to be valued at £5 million.

Pigott has scored just twice for Ipswich, whilst in the case of Charles, he hasn’t scored at all and right now, isn’t even getting a game for Accrington.

Time for Forest fans to put some respect on Grabban

Forest fans would be wise to remember that they do have an exceptionally good striker within their ranks. Just two seasons ago, Grabban scored 20 goals as Forest nearly reached the play-offs.

In the coming transfer windows, Forest will need some fresh legs in attack and that isn’t up for debate.

In a post-pandemic transfer window, however, it was always going to be a difficult purchase during the summer.

With Steve Cooper now at the helm and him seemingly hell-bent on playing attacking football, Grabban should get plenty of chances to score goals.

The striker’s critics would be wise to be careful what they wish for.
