Nottingham Forest gem Dale Taylor has raved about Blackpool star Shayne Lavery and also highlighted some ambitions of his to Sky Sports.

The 17-year-old was a surprise call-up to the Northern Ireland senior squad for games against Lithuania and Italy.

Taylor hasn’t made his debut for Forest just yet but has been scoring goals for the under-18 and under-21 ranks.

The youngster arrived at Forest in the summer of 2020 and was given a professional contract in December of last year.

Taylor famously scored for Linfield as a 15-year-old and there he was nurtured by Northern Irish legend David Healy.

Another of his projects was Blackpool star Lavery. He raced out of the blocks in the Championship this season, scoring seven goals in 13 games before a hamstring injury struck.

Taylor won’t get the chance to link up with his former Linfield teammate during this international break.

He has, however, had some praise for his compatriot and also listed three ambitions he’d like to tick off.

The Forest youngster told Sky Sports: “Shayne is amazing. I look up to him and it gives me the confidence that I can follow him.

“I want to play for my country, make my debut for Forest and one day play in the Premier League.”

Forest starlet Taylor will hope for Northern Ireland chance

Although he’s not made his Forest debut yet, this call-up will absolutely give him a tremendous amount of belief.

It would seem as though Taylor is well thought of in his home country and the coaching staff at Forest echo such sentiments.

The challenge for Taylor now is to get firing at the City Ground and force his way into first-team contention.

Steve Cooper isn’t blessed with loads of strikers in his squad and one injury could see him in need of someone to step up.

Taylor must use his international call-up as the catalyst to kick on and win himself a big Forest chance.
