Nottingham Forest were linked with a move for defender Josh Doig in the summer and the player could now sign for Rangers.
According to The Athletic, the left-back is wanted by the Gers if Watford pounce for Borna Barisic.
Forest were thought to be willing to take the player on loan if Burnley had signed the player for £4 million in the summer.
That deal never came to fruition, however, and the player has remained in the Scottish Premiership.
Now, the champions are keen to pounce for the youngster who has been a mainstay at Hibs during the current campaign.
This season he has made 20 appearances for his current club and at 19, he looks destined for a really bright future.
Forest tried hard to sign a number of left-backs in the summer.
Doig was one, with Derby star Lee Buchanan another who was on the radar of Dane Murphy.
Both fit the criteria for the type of player he likes to sign but both alluded Forest and remained at their current clubs.
The Reds landed Max Lowe and prior to picking up an injury he has looked extremely good.
Talent: Should Forest rival Rangers for Doig?
Given that he’s valued at the £4 million mark, he’s probably out of Forest’s price range.
Of course, that shouldn’t stop the club from asking some questions though regarding Doig’s actual valuation.
There will come a time when Forest need to get themselves a long-term option at left-back.
Right now, the Reds have Lowe and in his absence, a number of makeshift options have been called upon.
Landing someone like Doig would be perfect and he could become the club’s primary option for the foreseeable.
Rangers seemingly hold the aces but that shouldn’t stop Forest from trying to get Doig to the City Ground.
